Law enforcement authorities in Fremont County, Wyo., are seeking whoever is responsible for shooting a rodeo horse used by a local college.

Captain Roger Millward of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department said the horse was discovered dead in its pasture earlier this month. The animal had sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Millward said the horse might have been shot by someone attempting to kill one of the many foxes that roam the area in which the horse’s pasture is located.

"Someone may have wounded the horse and then gone back to put it down later," Millward said
