Four Horses Killed By Lightning Strike

Four Thoroughbred racehorses were killed by lightning in Jasper, Ga., Monday, July 26.

Two geldings and two pregnant mares were found dead in their field located on the 66-acre farm owned by James and Irma Green. The horses were valued at more than $100,000 the Greens told WSBTV Channel 2, but the Greens did not have insurance.

It is believed that the lightning hit a drainage pipe in the pond, which runs underneath the dam where the horses were standing.
