David Llewellyn, president and founder of Wyvern International Ltd., the exclusive worldwide distributor of Thoroughbred horse racing from Australia, has been named the 20th recipient of the University of Louisville's John W. Galbreath Award for Outstanding Entrepreneurship in the Equine Industry.

The Galbreath Award, first given in 1990, is a project of U of L's Equine Industry Program. Named for the late owner of Darby Dan Farm and the Pittsburgh Pirates and the former chairman of Churchill Downs, the award is given each year to an individual whose innovative and risk-oriented business achievements in some segment of the equine industry have had an inspiring and positive effect.

Llewellyn, a native of Louisville, built the televising of one marquee race from Australia, the Melbourne Cup, in 1985 into a year-round enterprise that sends more racing signals into more countries than any other firm in the world. The award was given April 27 at a luncheon at the Kentucky International Equine Summit in Lexington.

"We believe that David Llewellyn is the ideal recipient of this prestigious award in that he has been creative, innovative, ethical, and very successful," said Rich Wilcke, director of the Equine Industry Program
