New Editorial Advisory Board Member for The Horse

Stephen G. Jackson, PhD, earned his undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Texas A&M, and his PhD in Equine Nutrition at the University of Kentucky (UK). In 1975, he became an Extension Horse Specialist at UK, and was an Associate Professor of Animal Science there from 1981-1990. Jackson joined Kentucky Equine Research as Vice President of Research, and was on staff from 1990-1997. Since then, Jackson has served as President of Bluegrass Equine Nutrition.

Jackson has, as a researcher, trained eight PhD and 17 Masters of Science students at UK. His major area of research emphasis was in growth and exercise physiology, and in the areas of nutrition of the young horse, broodmare, and performance horse.

Jackson has presented lectures on horse nutrition and exercise physiology in 54 countries and 36 states, and currently is a consulting nutritionist for farms in Ireland, England, France, Japan, India, Brunei, Panama, and Australia, as well as many farms throughout the United States. He received the Master Teacher Award from the UK Alumni Association and the Master Teacher Award from Gamma Sigma Delta, among other prestigious honors.

Jackson judges shows in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, and with his wife, Debbie, runs a farm in Versailles, Ky. They are involved with Thoroughbred horses, foxhunters, and Paints.
