Global animal health and nutrition company Alltech announced yesterday that its Yea-Sacc1026, a live yeast culture based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 1026, has been granted full European Union (EU) authorization as a feed additive for horses under Commission Regulation (EC) No. 886/2009.

Alltech says this authorization follows extensive scientific research in collaboration with leading universities and equine research authorities in Europe and worldwide.

The additive is designed to enhance digestion and nutrient extraction while preventing digestive upset.

The EU authorization coincides with the one-year countdown to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010, which will be held in Kentucky next year. Alltech is title sponsor of these world championships, which will showcase the eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI)
