An article on www.gothamist.com reported today (March 25) that a lawsuit by the city of New York against an “upstate horse farm owner” who was supposed to be caring for retired New York Police Department (NYPD) police horses was dropped when the farm owner agreed to have the horses moved. The article said the city had claimed the horses were underweight, had difficulty chewing, and were not stabled properly. The farm owner contended the city did not give him funding for the horses’ care.

The article stated that 20 of the horses were adopted last fall after their plight was made known to the public.

The Daily News reported today (March 25) that 15 of the horses were moved to Pennsylvania, five to New Hampshire, and eight to a stable in New York.

The article on www.gothamist.com said the horses range in age from 3 to nearly 30, and that all were in better health since being moved
