With real estate rebounding, many developers are anxious to recoup their losses and start building. The problem for horse professionals is that development often means pushing stables further away from urban areas. This can negatively affect a stable’s growth and profitability and has forced many barns out of business. It is important for equine professionals and landowners to understand the basics of land use planning, zoning ordinances, and their implications for horses and horse-related activities.

EquestrianProfessional.com and Equine Land Conservation Resource are partnering to bring horse professionals a webinar on Oct. 14 at 8:30 p.m. EDT (5:30 p.m. PDT), which is designed to introduce the basics of planning and zoning for the equestrian community. Tom Daniels, PhD, a professor of city and regional planning at the University of Pennsylvania, will speak during the event.

Equine enthusiasts and professionals need to know what is included in their community’s comprehensive plan and have an understanding of the zoning laws that apply to equine activities in their community. A lack of participation and understanding by horsemen and women about planning and zoning in their community can lead to the loss of land for recreational riding and driving, competing, training, breeding, grazing, and growing hay and grain.

“What Horse Professionals and Stable Operators Need to Know About Land Use” is available to all horse professionals and can be attended via a phone or computer. You must register to attend
