Musicians Present Happy Hour for Horses Benefit Show

www.68caliber.com, a paintball “addict” site, wanted its members to know about an upcoming musical benefit for Refuge RR for Horses, “a registered charitable organization that rescues, rehabilitates and provides homes for abused, neglected or abandoned horses. “It is the only large-animal rescue in Quebec and Eastern Ontario,” noted the news item. In addition to responding to emergency calls from individuals and the SPCA, Refuge RR for Horses also works with the Quebec and Ontario Provincial Police forces to rescue horses from abusive environments.”

Craig Miller and his band BluesTrain Deluxe, and Jose Brault and her band Soul Fusion, will perform a benefit concert for the Refuge RR for Horses on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5:00- 9:00 p.m. at Bourbon Street West in St-Lazare, Quebec. The news item said both Miller and Brault have either fostered or adopted horses from Refuge RR. They quoted Miller as saying, “Last spring my wife and I fostered a young horse rescued by Refuge RR. She had obviously been starved and was down to skin and bones when we took her in.  I’m happy to say that she’s now healthy and has been placed on a great 120-acre farm by the devoted Refuge RR people.”

The story on www.68caliber.com said many of the horses helped by Refuge RR have similar stories of abuse or neglect. While in the care of Refuge RR, animals receive veterinary care, proper nutrition, and are assessed for compatible placement in a new home. In 2007, Refuge RR took in more than 150 animals and successfully placed more than 120. Refuge RR for Horses itself supports 30 horses each month. The monthly cost to feed 30 horses is approximately $2,700 (Canadian), and the Refuge RR for Horses relies entirely on the generosity of donors and sponsors for funding. A recent dramatic rise in the number of emergency calls it receives has now left Refuge RR in a critical financial position.

Refuge RR for Horses is a federally registered, charitable organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and provides permanent homes for abused, neglected, or abandoned horses. It has been in operation for 18 years, first located in Quebec, and now in Alexandria, Ontario. Domestic animal shelters, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, as well as the Ontario and Quebec provincial police forces contact Refuge RR when rescues involve large animals. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of the horses rescued by Refuge RR are from the Province of Quebec
