Lloyd’s of London Underwriters, brokers and their Kentucky agents recently gave $45,000 in support of the University of Kentucky equine research publication Equine Disease Quarterly. Since the mid-1980s, the Lloyd’s of London group has given nearly $700,000 for research and other activities of the university’s Department of Veterinary Science.

“Over the past 21 years, the Lloyd’s market has donated to the Department of Veterinary Science, and we have been delighted to do so,” said Julian Lloyd, chairman of Lloyd’s Livestock Committee and a bloodstock underwriter at Hiscox.

“Lloyd’s is the preeminent insurer of bloodstoc, and we insure some of the most interesting and valuable equine risks in the world,” Lloyd said. “We are committed to supporting equine research and to providing the insurance cover to meet client needs worldwide.”

The award-winning Equine Disease Quarterly provides timely research-based reports to the horse industry worldwide. From an initial circulation of several hundred, it now reaches more than 18,000 readers in 87 countries and is translated into several languages. It also is available on the Internet, and articles are regularly abstracted by a variety of scientific and lay equine publications
