The health of the racehorse will be the featured topic in November as part of the American Association of Equine Practitioners' "Ask the Vet" online discussion on its horse health Web site. Each month an AAEP-member veterinarian answers questions submitted by horse owners pertaining to specific health issues. In November, questions will be answered by members of the AAEP Racing Committee.

While quality veterinary care is important to the health and welfare of all horses, racehorses can have unique veterinary needs. Veterinarians who specialize in the care of racehorses will address topics such as daily health management, diagnostic and treatment options, and health basics for racehorse owners. Questions will be accepted about all breeds of racehorses.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research, and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry
