Equine nutritionists and veterinarians have long told us that large, infrequent grain or concentrate meals can cause digestive disturbances in our horses. But, especially for owner of horses that require a substantial amount of calories each day, it can be challenging to fit multiple small feedings into a daily routine full of other commitments.

Last week, we asked our readers how often they feed concentrate, complete feed, supplements, and/or grain to their horses. More than 1,000 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results

Of the 1,025 respondents, 543 (53%) said they feed their horses twice each day, while 302 (30%) said their horses eat grain meals once per day. Another 86 readers (8%) said they feed their horses more than twice daily, while the remaining 94 individuals (9%) said their horses do not consume grain, concentrates, complete feeds, or supplements.
