The University of Maryland Equine Extension will host a workshop focused on forage quality and equine feeding strategies Sept. 19 at the Central Maryland Research and Education Center in Ellicott City.

“In morning sessions we will discuss forage types and varieties, how forage is used in the equine diet, financial benefits of efficient forage use, and improving hay production and quality,” the program brochure reads. “The afternoon will include hands on activities and demonstrations.”

Scheduled speakers include:

  • Amy Burk, MS, PhD, an associate professor and equine Extension specialist at the University of Maryland;
  • Carey Williams, MS, PhD, the Equine Extension Specialist and Associate Director of Extension at the Rutgers’ Equine Science Center;
  • Sara BhaduriHauck, an agriculture educator with University of Maryland Extension in the Harford County Extension Office; and
  • Les Vough, MS, PhD, president of the Maryland/Delaware Forage Council and a retired University of Maryland Extension forage specialist.

The course fee is $40 per person and includes course materials and lunch
