World Horse Welfare’s (formerly known as the International League for the Protection of Horses) International Training team recently completed its second year of training activities, and the group is pleased to announce its success in improving working horse welfare in Lesotho.

Training Courses

World Horse Welfare’s farriery and saddlery courses were completely filled in 2008. With 100% attendance on each course, it was clear that the students were committed to better their own livelihoods while also improving working horse welfare. In total, 21 students completed the training and are now ready to embark upon new ventures within their local communities. Six advanced students will soon become the assistant instructors on the next training program.

Throughout the year, the training team and students took numerous field trips to villages. These field trips allowed participants to help the many working horses in urgent need of farriery and saddlery assistance, and they enabled students to develop their practical horse care skills base
