California police are searching for whoever killed a horse, then tied the dead animal to a pole on a Los Angeles street.

Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Officer Norma Eisenman said a caller reported finding a dead mare tied by her tail to a pole on April 9. The horse showed signs of blunt trauma and a possible gunshot wound, but her exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

“The Animal Cruelty Task Force is deciding whether or not to follow-up with a necropsy,” Eisenman said.

Eisenman said that detectives at the scene discovered evidence that could lead to an arrest, however the case remains under investigation
