The Back Country Horsemen of America’s Shasta Trinity Unit and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Redding Field Office will co-sponsor a “leave no trace” horse camping clinic on April 1.

The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. next to the Bass Pond Trailhead in the Sacramento River Bend Area north of Red Bluff, California.

Instructors at the free event will offer information and training on the seven leave no trace principles. The leave no trace program teaches practical conservation techniques designed to minimize visitor impacts, such as trampling vegetation and polluting water, in wilderness environments. The term could also refer to behavior that diminishes the wilderness experience for other visitors.

“Even though the Sacramento River Bend Area is not a wilderness, the Back Country Horsemen and the BLM hope that equestrians use the leave no trace principles in this area, too,” said BLM Redding Field Manager Jennifer Mata
