An Oklahoma woman is facing felony animal cruelty charges in connection with the alleged maltreatment of more than 60 horses on her Seminole County property.

Earlier this month, Seminole County law enforcement authorities removed 63 horses—including Haflingers, Icelandics, Friesians, and Paints—from a farm near Wewoka, Okla. All the horses were placed at Blaze’s Tribute Equine Rescue Inc., for evaluation and rehabilitative care. Rescue Director Natalee Cross said that at the time of their removal, all the animals were in poor body condition and one horse has died since the removal.

The horses’ owner Carolyn Vaughn was subsequently arrested and later released on bond.

A representative for the Seminole County Court Clerk’s Office said that on April 24, Vaughn appeared in county court where she was formally charged with one count of felony animal cruelty in connection with the 62 allegedly maltreated horses
