Woman Charged in Colorado Horse Seizure

A woman is facing multiple animal cruelty charges in connection with the seizure of more than 60 allegedly maltreated horses from her Penrose, Colorado, property.

On Jan. 20 Fremont County sheriff’s deputies, along with personnel from the Colorado Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc., and the Dumb Friends League, confiscated 63 horses following an animal cruelty investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Detective Sergeant Megan Richards said the owner had 64 animals in total, but that nine had been removed from the property prior to the seizure.

“The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office recovered eight of the nine removed; they were part of the 63 total seized,” Richards said. “They were recovered at a sale barn in the Fort Collins area
