The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) will host a meeting focused on the issue of retired racehorses on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 11:15 a.m. at the Fasig-Tipton Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion in Saratoga Springs.

The public meeting, a follow-up to last year’s successful day-long summit, is part of the commission’s efforts to drive attention and resources to racehorse retirement.

The two-hour event will feature a presentation and discussion of the commission’s ongoing study to locate New York-bred Thoroughbreds that have not raced since 2012. It will also include updates and recent developments from industry leaders and several of last year’s participants, including The New York Racing Association, Inc., the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), and several TAA-accredited organizations working in the state.

The event will also see the debut of a commission-produced film highlighting the importance of responsible aftercare in New York state and discussing the many viable options for retired racehorses. Starting later this year, any owner, trainer, or assistant trainer seeking licensure or renewal in New York State must attest that they have viewed the film
