Farm Call: Your Questions Answered
Bacteria in Semen
Q. I'm wondering if there is a bacterial component that can be present in stallion semen. We have a stallion that will settle mares easily one year and then not be able to settle mares the next.
Dirty or Shy?
Q. I have noticed my gelding has some weird tendencies when urinating. I haven't seen him drop his penis, so when he urinates he just pees and walks away while still urinating. Could this be a sign of a problem, or is it just odd behavior?
Mysterious Swelling
Q. My horse has a swollen 24-inch "vein" on the middle of his underbelly and all the way up to his genitals, which are also swollen. Is there anything I can apply to reduce the swelling? There also was a hard lump near this possibly from a bug bite.
