After wiping down my horse, I wipe down my tack. Especially hate dirty bits and girths.

I was trained in England to do more!
1/16/2011 1:41:49 AM
I wipe the bit every time

I have harness horses and bio harness very easy
1/15/2011 7:22:08 PM
Depends on the weather - when it's muddy I wipe it down after every ride
1/15/2011 3:16:41 PM
I figure I wipe it off pretty good with my rear!
1/14/2011 1:53:47 PM
I have very expensive tack;I keep it for many years, just how I was trained as a youngster
1/14/2011 12:49:56 PM
Guilty of letting my tack go for way too long!!
1/14/2011 9:27:35 AM
It depends on how often & where i ride. Always with non-glicerin, non-silicon products
1/14/2011 3:14:45 AM
I rinse or scrub the junk off the bit and wipe down all the leather.
1/13/2011 8:32:06 PM
It is pretty close to never. Cordura-leather headstalls regularly
1/13/2011 6:19:11 PM
Maybe 3 times a week if not in winter
1/13/2011 5:51:15 PM
or if it gets rained or mud on it
1/13/2011 4:19:46 PM
I use synthetic tack
1/13/2011 2:54:18 PM
Live in AZ (dry, hot) - vacuum off dust mo., clean & oil leather
1/13/2011 1:00:13 PM
I wipe it down alot right after I clean it, then less & less until it's filthy and I clean it again.
1/13/2011 12:25:20 PM
have expensive leather saddle (replacement cost >5k). Bridle not so often.
1/13/2011 11:07:06 AM
Clean tack before horse shows only

Cleaning tack allows you to evaluate its condition
1/12/2011 9:28:27 PM
Do the bridle more often
1/12/2011 5:09:05 PM
Always for my bit. It gets washed. Not so often the leather bits.

every time, of course!
1/12/2011 4:55:32 PM
once a monthh

clean once a year
1/12/2011 3:43:57 PM
Depends upon weather-muddy stirrups!
1/12/2011 3:19:22 PM
I'm a tack fanatic & my good tack lasts forever!
1/12/2011 3:04:21 PM
I should do it more often, but unfortunately I don't!
1/12/2011 1:53:20 PM
my tack still looks new! I use sheepskin wraps on the leathers as well!
1/12/2011 1:25:14 PM
clean tack is safe tack--I don't like tack failure surprises when it is easily preventable
1/12/2011 12:37:43 PM
More so in hot weather to wipe off all that sweat.
1/12/2011 12:33:34 PM
Admittedly not often enough.
1/12/2011 12:14:28 PM
As needed plus spring and fall
1/12/2011 11:25:46 AM
When it starts to look grubby.
1/12/2011 11:09:59 AM
I'm more inclined to wipe it down before I ride: safety inspection
1/12/2011 10:50:19 AM
Saddles are expensive; I need to be better about caring for them...
1/12/2011 10:10:09 AM
Only when its obvious its been sweated on, wet or dirty
1/12/2011 9:59:47 AM
summer - every time; winter - every-other-time
1/12/2011 8:46:41 AM
I drive and a clean harness is imperitive
1/12/2011 8:26:59 AM
I always clean the bit but only clean the saddle as needed.
1/12/2011 8:19:49 AM
Probably should do it more than I do.
1/12/2011 7:51:06 AM
Bridle each time, martingale each time, saddle as necessary
1/12/2011 6:48:21 AM
once or twice a year, not often enough
1/12/2011 5:43:35 AM
I always clean it before a competition or training day.
1/12/2011 5:37:31 AM
Always clean bit but slack with saddle
1/12/2011 5:35:44 AM
The only tack I use is a nylon bitless bridle, cleaning is easy.
1/12/2011 1:34:53 AM
40 years of tack repair, clean with Kirke's Castile soap, avoid oil more than once a year
1/12/2011 12:15:46 AM
I realized that it only takes a few minutes and saves me from a long day of heavy cleaning later on
1/11/2011 11:24:11 PM
every ride!
1/11/2011 10:59:38 PM
each and every time I ride
1/11/2011 10:32:59 PM
Even if I only have a chance to damp wipe it, then clean/condition next time
1/11/2011 10:19:02 PM
More often in summer, less in winter, when there is less sweat.
1/11/2011 9:53:36 PM
I really know better, but show season is so crazy, I don't have time.
1/11/2011 9:31:22 PM
There should have been a fifth category: almost always, which I would have checked.
1/11/2011 9:15:15 PM
I clean my bridles & bits after each use. Saddles weekly .
1/11/2011 9:04:48 PM
I am trying to get better about this. I rarely clean my tack after I ride, except on a show week.
1/11/2011 8:33:54 PM
Weekly if I can or a very in-depth clean every 2.
1/11/2011 8:07:23 PM
or hardly ever...
1/11/2011 7:41:24 PM
depends on how muddy it is
1/11/2011 7:37:33 PM
depends on time of year and how often I am riding, summer, almost every time, winter maybe once a mo
1/11/2011 7:05:40 PM

1/11/2011 6:01:08 PM
not as often as I should
1/11/2011 5:56:56 PM
I rarely ride.
1/11/2011 5:54:25 PM
i always rinse the bit
1/11/2011 5:51:20 PM
Sweat/rain gets wiped off but if it's dry I'm lazy and don't do it.
1/11/2011 5:48:34 PM
If wipe donw means run over with cloth, then every time. If it means clean, then occasionally.
1/11/2011 5:44:52 PM
Only before an event
1/11/2011 5:37:11 PM
Rarely, and shame on me.
1/11/2011 5:18:51 PM
I prefer to use tack which is nice and clean
1/11/2011 5:12:09 PM

1/11/2011 4:30:23 PM
After so many years it is habitual.
1/11/2011 4:27:29 PM
not as often as I should - depends on the dirt and weather

Clean tack about twice a year
1/11/2011 3:59:10 PM
its hard to find the time- I am normally squeezing in ride time as it is
1/11/2011 3:58:41 PM
I'm too busy cleaning the horse to worry about the tack (he's a grey, nearly white). Tack is later.
1/11/2011 3:56:16 PM
I only clean or wipe it when it is dirty.
1/11/2011 3:55:26 PM
Here in the Northwest mold is our enemy and keeping tack clean helps prevent it.
1/11/2011 3:52:20 PM
One must be diligent!
1/11/2011 3:49:33 PM
Wiping down tack with a damp microfiber cloth keeps the grit and grime from becoming imbedded.
1/11/2011 3:48:46 PM
only when it's been raining on us
1/11/2011 3:47:46 PM

1/11/2011 3:28:49 PM
When dust and/or dirt are visible
1/11/2011 3:27:01 PM
If its very sweaty or muddy I wipe down, otherwise not.
1/11/2011 3:23:53 PM
It's just easier to keep up with it
1/11/2011 3:20:58 PM
almost every time if i can. ive had the same saddle for 30 years and it still looks great.
1/11/2011 3:20:38 PM
I know I should, but:
1/11/2011 3:18:42 PM
I used to do it every time I rode, but now I use synthetic tack and wash it only a few times a year!
1/11/2011 3:05:46 PM
I ride bareback

1/11/2011 2:53:01 PM
Before show or lesson.
1/11/2011 2:39:09 PM
I give it a wipe before untacking after a ride. It gets a good "do" about four times a year.
