TECHNICAL LARGE ANIMAL RESCUE TRAINING SESSION
Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) is offering a Technical Large Animal Rescue Training Session March 22-24, 2005. Fire/rescue personnel, first responders, veterinarians, and horse enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.
Taught by Drs. Tomas and Rebecca Gimenez, the 30-hour course will cover all aspects of large-animal rescue. The course format will involve classroom instruction and hands-on training with live animals.
Funding is provided through the Large Animal Rescue Endowed Fund, established at EKU by the USRider Equestrian Motor Plan. The fund will promote large animal rescue efforts and support related training programs. |

Horses Killed in Trailer Accident
Adouble-deck livestock trailer traveling from Minnesota to Kentucky carrying 50 horses overturned, tumbled down an embankment, and crashed into a utility pole, according to the police report. A small fire ignited from downed wires. The accident occurred just north of Lawrenceburg, Ind., on State Route 1 at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2004. At least 21 horses were dead after the accident, two horses sustained major injuries, and others had minor injuries, according to witnesses on the scene. MORE...
