AAEP HEALTH LINK: TREATMENT FOR LAMENESS
My horse tore a hind tendon a year ago. Each time I start him back up, he goes lame. Although just walking, he continues to be very sensitive. I put sports medicine boots on to keep him from reinjuring his tendon when he's out in his pasture, but it doesn't seem to help. For the past two weeks I have been cold hosing and applying DMSO, but it still seems to be sore and tender. What can I do to help relieve his pain while starting him back into light riding work?

RECOMMENDED READING: UNDERSTANDING YOUR HORSE'S BEHAVIOR
I have two horses in my stable yard. One is a 20-year-old retired ex-chaser gelding and the other is a 12-year-old Arab gelding. I'm worried about their dependency on one another and any future bereavement of the horse left behind. Should I consider bringing in a third horse sooner rather than later? Would it make any difference to the surviving horse if a new "friend" is introduced as early as possible?
