New AAEP Board of Directors Members for 2014 Installed

Mark Baus, DVM, owner of Grand Prix Equine in Bridgewater, Conn., and Stuart Brown II, DVM, a partner in Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Ky., have joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

The two were was installed during the Dec. 10 President’s Luncheon at the AAEP’s 59th Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn. Their three-year terms will expire in 2016.

Baus has worked in private practice with a focus on the care and treatment of performance horses for more than 30 years. After receiving his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 1981, Baus entered practice in Fairfield, Conn. He co-founded Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, Conn., in 1989 and served as president and managing partner of the practice from 1996 until starting Grand Prix Equine in 2009.

An AAEP member since 1982 and current moderator of the English Sport Horse Rounds, Baus has served on the Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee, the Affiliates and Drug Compounding task forces, and facilitated the Performance Horse Forum. In addition, he is founding director and incoming president of the Northeast Association of Equine Practitioners and serves on the United States Equestrian Federation’s Veterinary Committee and on the United States Hunter Jumper Association’s Horse and Rider Advocates Committee.

Meanwhile, after receiving his veterinary degree from Tuskegee University in 1991, Brown joined Hagyard where his practice specializes in reproduction, public auction sales evaluations and general practice within the Thoroughbred industry. An active advocate on behalf of equines and equine practice, Brown is a past president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association and currently serves on the boards of the Gluck Equine Research Foundation and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. He is also a member of the Equine Advisory Board to the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

An AAEP member since 1991, Brown serves as chair of the Executive Director Review Committee, alternate delegate-elect to the American Veterinary Medical Association House of Delegates and on the Welfare and Public Policy Advisory Council. He previously chaired the Public Sales Auction Issues Task Force and Reproductive Evaluation of the Mare Task Force.
