Law enforcement authorities in Oregon are seeking whoever is responsible for shooting a horse while it grazed in a pasture in rural Grant County.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Master Sgt. Gordon Larson said that on Sept. 19, the owner of the Quarter Horse mare notified authorities after finding the animal had been wounded by a gunshot. The mare was later euthanized due to the severity of its wounds, Larson said.

Larson declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation.

If caught those responsible could face multiple felony charges carrying penalties of up to $50,000 in fines and incarceration, Larson said
