The owner of a North Carolina farm is facing multiple animal cruelty charges for allegedly maltreating more than 30 Hackney ponies.

On July 7 Forsyth County animal control personnel removed 35 allegedly emaciated animals from the Renn Brook Farm in Winston-Salem, said County Animal Control Department Director Tim Jennings. One dead animal was also found at the scene.

"The seized ponies had body condition scores of 1 and 2 (out of nine) on the Henneke Scale," Jennings said.

All 35 horses were transported to the Dixie County Fairgrounds where volunteers from the Horse Education and Rescue organization, the United States Equine Rescue, and the local Hackney horse society provided care, Jennings said
