TCA Distributes Grants to 81 Nonprofits

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) announced June 30 that grants totaling $903,450 have been awarded to 81 Thoroughbred industry-related nonprofit organizations that work to uphold TCA's mission.

Grants are distributed by TCA to several categories of Thoroughbred industry-related nonprofits including rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organizations, as well as education and backstretch programs, therapeutic riding programs, and research organizations. Grant applications for 2012 will be available on www.tca.org in early January.

"I am very grateful to our donors and to our volunteers who make these grants possible, but especially grateful to those who work so hard in all the organizations caring for retired Thoroughbreds, providing support for farm and racetrack workers, and conducting research to improve the lives of horses," said TCA President Dan Rosenberg. "Thoroughbred Charities of America is committed to redoubling efforts within the Thoroughbred community to provide adequate funding for these important services."

Over the past 21 years TCA has distributed more than $18 million to more than 200 accredited charities that work to fulfill TCA's mission.

Formally affiliated with the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA), TCA is now the charitable arm of the organization. Its affiliation with TOBA has allowed TCA to further expand its national reach and provides the continuity needed to carry on its mission into the future. The overall mission is to provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting retirement, rescue, and research, and by helping the people who work with them.

The primary fundraiser for TCA is its annual Stallion Season Auction held each winter in Lexington, Ky. Donations to TCA are always accepted and can be made in the form of cash donations or as donations in lieu of flowers, birthday gifts, or other occasions. To make a donation visit www.tca.org.
