David Allen and Heather Shatz, animal science majors in the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program (RTIP), have been awarded The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year, it was jointly announced today by Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club, and Doug Reed, director of the Race Track Industry Program.

Allen is a senior from Detroit, Mich., and Shatz is a junior from Benson, Ariz. This is the second Goodman Scholarship for Allen, whose original scholarship from last year was renewed for 2010-2011.

"Heather and David epitomize the spirit of The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship and are most-deserving recipients," said Iuliano. "We are glad to reward them for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to their future contributions to the Thoroughbred industry."

"David interned at Monmouth Park this summer," said Reed, "and has been a wonderful student with plans to graduate this year while Heather returns this year for her second year and has immersed herself in everything the program has to offer
