WEG: Reiners Selected for Team USA

Team USA was set July 10 during the Adequan/USEF Open Reining Championships at the AQHA Battle in the Saddle in Oklahoma City, OK. The competition was also the selection trial for the United States Reining Team for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG).

Placings were based on a two-go-round composite score with the top four horse-and-rider combinations earning spots on the official US Reining Team. The fifth placing horse-and-rider pair will serve an alternate at the WEG.

Team USA:

  • Shawn Flarida & RC Fancy Step, owned by Buffalo Ranch
  • Tom McCutcheon & Gunners Special Nite, owned by Turnabout Farms
  • Craig Schmersal & Boom Shernic, owned by Boom Shernic Syndicate
  • Tim McQuay & Hollywoodstinseltown, owned by David Silva
  • Casey Deary & Rootin Tootin Dunit, owned by Wolf Stern Partnership (alternate)

After leading the first go-round with a 223.5, Flarida and RC Fancy Step solidified their number one spot on the team by marking a 223 and ultimately a composite score of 446.5. McCutcheon won second with a 445.5 composite (1st go – 220.5, 2nd go – 225). In third was Schmersal with a 444 composite (1st go – 221, 2nd go – 223). McQuay earned fourth place and a spot on Team USA with a 443.5 composite (1st go – 219.5, 2nd go – 224). Deary, who scored a 440.5 composite (1st go – 218.5, 2nd go – 222), will serve as the alternate for Team USA.
