Horse Owner Education Sessions Offered by Minnesota Extension

The University of Minnesota Extension Horse Team is offering three regional horse owner education programs this fall. Each program offers researched-based information and knowledgeable speakers. The cost to attend each program is $20 per person. The dates, locations, and topics include:

Leatherdale Equine Center in St. Paul Oct. 3 The program begins at 9:30a.m. (doors open at 9a.m.) and ends at 4p.m. Topics include: lameness evaluation and gait analysis, equine genetics, identifying and managing EMS, EMS and genetics research update, and managing carbohydrates in feeds and forages. An optional tour of the Equine Center is available at 4p.m. Lunch is included for this program. Registration is required. Registration deadline is Sept. 30 and attendance is limited. This program is sponsored by a USDA NRI Integrated Research Grant. Register online.  

Red Horse Ranch Arena in Fergus Falls Oct. 24 The program begins at 1p.m. (doors open at 12:30p.m.) at ends at 4p.m. Topics include: winter care, manure management and composting, vitamin and mineral nutrition, equine dentistry, poisonous plants, and truck and trailer DOT regulations. Participants can select among multiple topics each hour. Registration is required. Registration deadline is Oct. 21. This program is co-sponsored by Fergus Falls Community Education. Register online.  

Middle School in Howard Lake Nov. 14 The program begins at 1p.m. (doors open at 12:30p.m.) and ends at 4p.m. Topics include: equine economics and options for unwanted horses, equine dentistry, horse behavior, vitamin and mineral nutrition, fly and pest control, and truck and trailer DOT regulations. Participants can select among multiple topics each hour. Registration is required. Registration deadline is Nov. 11. This program is co-hosted by Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Community Education.
