Kentucky Celebrates The Horse on Aug. 15

Hats Off Day, Kentucky's day to celebrate its horse industry, is Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2:00 p.m., at the Kentucky Horse Park. Everyone is invited to attend, and admission to the Kentucky Horse Park is free for you and your family. Hats Off Day is a free day of family fun and an opportunity to learn more about horses and the amazing things they do for Kentucky.

Events include children's activities, free pony rides, educational booths, interactive equine stations, Grand Prix show jumping, World Equestrian Games demonstrations, and much more. World Equestrian Games Demonstrations will include dressage, reining, vaulting, eventing, endurance, combined driving, and paralympics. There will also be a spectacular Friesian demonstration by Clay Maier.

Free souvenir hats will be distributed while supplies last at the Visitor's Information Center at the Kentucky Horse Park.

This year Hats Off Day has a new partnership with the University of Kentucky, with guest appearances by UK celebrities.

Hats Off activities begin at 2:00 p.m., including free pony rides and free picture on a pony (see below for full schedule).

Please join other supporters of Kentucky's horse industry at the new outdoor arena at 5:00 p.m. for a special UK salute to the horse industry, a demonstration of World Equestrian Games disciplines, and an exciting Grand Prix show jumping competition!

The Rood & Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix, a challenging show jumping competition between top international horses and riders, is the featured evening entertainment of Hat's Off Day and will take place in the new Kentucky Horse Park outdoor stadium.

Children's activities include:
• Lunchbox sticker fun--make your own “horsey” lunchbox.
• Stick horse making--make your own stick horse and be in a horse show.
• Stick Horse Competition
• Pony Tails--Groom a Miniature Horse!
• Pony Rides
• Picture on a Pony--every child receives a free picture.
• There will be a stick horse parade with members of the Lexington Mounted Police.

For everyone there will be educational Booths with activities, games, and lots of prizes. There also will be food vendors with hot dogs, pizza, lemonade, and ice cream.
