In the event of  accidental deaths, natural disasters, or disease outbreaks involving large numbers of animals, the carcasses will need to be handled quickly, safely, and with attention to public health and environmental impact.


The University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, in conjunction with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will host an international symposium on carcass disposal issues July 21-July 23 in Davis, Calif.


Participants will discuss, learn, and exchange information with researchers, policy makers, and regulators on carcass disposal technology, planning, training, and law. In addition to classroom sessions, workshops and demonstrations of available carcass disposal methods will take place.


The keynote speaker, Patricia A. Conrad, DVM, PhD, professor of parasitology at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, will discuss infectious disease transmission at the interfaces between wildlife, humans, and domestic animals such as livestock
