More Than 100 Arrested After Horse Fair Brawl

More than 100 people have been arrested at Appleby Fair in Cumbria, U.K., an annual horse trading event, according to an article at

Most of the arrests were for "drunkenness, drugs, and disorder," the report noted. Sunday topped the weeklong event with 27 arrests, as two gangs reportedly clashed.

Additionally, police seized cocaine, marijuana, 127 guns, and 100 whips over the course of the event, which ends tomorrow.

Organizer Kevin Douglas told that security was increased this year in partnership with charities, including the RSPCA.

"Our goal is to return it to a traditional horse fair that is enjoyable and safe," Douglas said.
