Synthetic surfaces have been introduced within the last five years and are slowly spreading across the United States. Some of the issues that are open for debate are the effects of this change on horse welfare, breeding, betting, and traditions.

“I would be very interested in what your views are regarding this topic,” said student Katie Macrae. “Your involvement in this survey will remain confidential, with all private details excluded from the final dissertation.”
