Fracture Recovery: A Stem Cell Case Study

Because of the severity of the fracture, a decision was made to use stem cells to enhance fracture healing. Bone marrow was taken from her sternum and submitted to the UC Davis Regenerative Medicine Laboratory for expansion of stem cells 12 days after surgery, in preparation for local injection during the first cast change at 26 days post-surgery.
