Vermont Firefighters Pull Horse From Well

Pittsford, Vt., firefighters rescued a horse that had fallen six or seven feet into an open well.

Fire Chief Tom Hooker said when firefighters arrived on Monday evening the animal was completely submerged in water.

Rescuers used a hose with rope and a tractor to pull the horse from the well.

After the horse was rescued it lay on its side for a few minutes before standing up and walking to its stall.

Hooker said the horse was suffering from hypothermia and exhausted after struggling for two to three hours to get out of the well.
