A Loudoun County, Va., grand jury has indicted a horse trainer on 48 counts of animal cruelty.
Dennis Danley faces up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine on each count. The charges were brought in connection with the seizure of four dozen Thoroughbreds by Loudoun County officials last month from a farm in the Middleburg area. The animals were found to be severely malnourished and without drinking water. (For more on this see Charges Pending on Horses Seized from Virginia Farm).
Danley said he stopped working on the farm in November, owned no horses, and isn’t responsible for their condition.
According to court records, Danley also faced animal cruelty charges last year in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Animal cruelty is a Class I misdemeanor
