Horse Won as Contest Prize Turns 30

Mountwood Bally Hy--"Monty" to her longtime owner--will soon reach the milestone age of 30 years. Helen Seymour of Suffolk, England, won the horse as a prize in a Horse & Hound competition in 1984, according to an article on the magazine's Web site. Monty will turn 30 on Mar. 24.

"Winning Monty changed the whole direction of my life," Seymour told the magazine. "I was a bit unsure when I first rode him, but ... he was absolutely spot on."

Monty was the main prize in Horse & Hound's "win a horse" competition, which challenged entrants to answer questions published in the British magazine throughout 1984, according to the article.
