Horse Owners Contributing Prize Money to Hong Kong Olympic Fund

Racehorse owners in Hong Kong will now contribute part of their prize money to support cultural, educational, promotional, and community involvement programs related to the 2008 Olympic equestrian events, with the setting up of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Equestrian Events Hong Kong Fund.

The kick-off ceremony for the program was held just before the start of the races Jan. 27.

"It's an honor to be a winning horse owner," one owner said. "It's an even greater honor to contribute to the successful hosting of the Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong."

The donation program will last until the end of the racing season in the summer of 2008, just before the start of the Olympic Games. For each of the races, the winning horse owners will contribute a portion of their prize money to the Fund, which aims to raise over HK$10 million in total.

Set up with full support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the fund will help inspire the people of Hong Kong to support the Olympic equestrian events, which for many will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
