Behaving Badly, one of the year’s top sprinting distaffers, has been retired after a disappointing fourth as the favorite in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. III) Oct. 14 at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
The 5-year-old daughter of Pioneering exits racing with nine wins from 13 starts and earnings of $749,224 for Hal Earnhardt III and his wife, Patti.
“We left her in Kentucky,” said Southern California trainer Bob Baffert. “She’s getting older, and she’s always had little things that bugged her, and I didn’t want to press it anymore.”
Behaving Badly won six stakes, five of which were graded, including this year’s Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita and Genuine Risk Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park. She ran second in the Humana Distaff Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs in May
