Woodbine Drops Nine Live Racing Days; Polytrack Installation Cited

Woodbine Entertainment Group announced last Thursday (June 2) it has received approval from the Ontario Racing Commission to drop nine dates from Woodbine's 2006 Thoroughbred racing schedule.

The altered calendar is to accommodate the installation of a Polytrack surface where the one-mile dirt track currently sits.

While the original racing calendar runs uninterrupted until Monday, July 3, changes come soon after.

The deleted dates are Wednesday, July 5 and Friday, July 7, plus Thursdays in July and August (July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3, August 17, August 24 and August 31). July 6 and August 10 are already dark days.

With Standardbred racing moving to Mohawk in the summer, Woodbine's seven-furlong Harness surface will be converted to a Thoroughbred track while the installation of the Polytrack occurs on the current dirt oval.
