Television Program Will Highlight Katrina Recovery

Tonight (April 6), "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will feature the New Orleans' 9th Ward community after the August 2005 devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

"After the Storm: New Orleans" will appear at 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. CDT) on ABC.

According to the television show's web site, "Striving to heal the hearts of victims of Hurricane Katrina, the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team travels to New Orleans' 9th Ward to help restore cornerstones of the community, reunite families and pets, and bring light and music back to one of America's most beloved cities."

Best Friends Animal Society says it will be featured in the episode in which Drs. Foster & Smith (a leading pet supply company) and the television show producers team up to fly in pets that had been relocated to foster homes and shelters around the country after the hurricane.

Best Friends reports that Drs. Foster & Smith donated more than $21,000 in pet supplies for the reunion effort and organized a convoy of food and other essentials to the Gulf States in support of the ongoing rescue, shelter, and veterinary care of displaced pets.
