Two horses ended up dead during an annual fireworks season in England. One died as a result of a barn fire; the other died when frightened by fireworks and becoming entangled in a chain.

Eight horses were rescued from a burning barn in Bury, England, on Friday night, Oct. 28, but one horse suffered third-degree burns and had to be euthanatized, reported the Manchester Evening News online (www.manchesteronline.co.uk/men/news/s/179/179861_horse_killed_in_firework_attack.html).

On Oct. 29, a horse spooked by fireworks in a neighboring field was found dead in Yorkshire, England, after entangling himself in a chain around a soccer goalpost, according to a story in the Yorkshire Post. The horse died of asphyxiation.

The Friday night barn fire, according to the article, broke out at the Coltsrock Stud Farm in Pimhole, Bury (north of Manchester) around 11:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived quickly and led the horses out of the blaze to safety in a nearby field. It took three hours to quench the blaze, and the firefighters were called back on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 29) when hay in one of the extinguished buildings began to smolder
