Comments Sought on Equine Viral Arteritis: Uniformed Methods and Rules

The American Horse Council (AHC) has been asked to share the Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA): Uniformed Methods and Rules (UM&R) created by the USDA.

There is a brief period for review and comment and the AHC asks that you click here or visit www.horsecouncil.org and click on the EVA UM&R link near the top of the page) to read the EVA UM&R information. The AHC would like to generate comments or suggestions from the industry. They should be submitted to Tim Cordes, DVM, of USDA by Feb. 1, 2004 at Timothy.R.Cordes@usda.gov.

The AHC has worked for many years to gain greater control of EVA in the United States. Differing attitudes and approaches throughout the country with regard to this disease have prevented the industry from achieving a standard approach to this disease, which continues to put the U.S. horse industry at a disadvantage.

Please read and review the draft. The information within the draft document is similar to the guidelines for breeding mares to carrier stallion which the AHC developed and distributed a few years ago. A copy of these guidelines is available through the AHC web site.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Mann, AHC Director of Regulatory Affairs, at AMann@horsecouncil.org.
