The Dallas Museum of Natural History opens a special educational exhibit about West Nile virus (WNV), Wed., July 31. The exhibit allows visitors to explore what the virus is, how it originated, how we can protect ourselves and how it is spread.


West Nile virus has caused illness and death in birds, humans, and horses since its first appearance in the Western Hemisphere in 1999. The virus causes encephalitis, an inflammation and swelling of the brain. Learn more about WNV at https://thehorse.com/wnv.


“Since the discovery of the West Nile virus in North Texas, many residents want to know more about this virus,” says Interim CEO, Nicole Small. “The exhibit will provide our visitors with a complete understanding of the virus, not only with a thorough background of the virus, but also with tips that visitors can utilize in their everyday life.”


The Dallas Museum of Natural History is located at 3535 Grand Avenue in historic Fair Park. The Museum is open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Admission to the Museum is: Adults – $6.50, Sr. Citizens (55+) – $5.50, Students (13-18) – $5.00, Children (3-12) – $4.00. Children under three are admitted free. Museum members are always admitted free
