Derby News

Derby Favorite Fusaichi Pegasus (left) cooled down in the barn area after winning the 126th Kentucky Derby on May 6. A favorite had not won the Derby since 1979, but Fusaichi Pegasus broke the streak under jockey Kent Desormeaux. Aptitude was second and Impeachment finished third. Meanwhile on the backside, Globalize (right) was scratched from the Derby after a kick injury from his lead pony. The "deep cut" required five stitches, and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer scratched Globalize for the Derby. "You never get used to it, but if you’re going to be in this game, you have to deal with it. I’ve only had one other horse kicked by a pony. But, I’ll take my lumps and go on," said Hollendorfer. "We’ll make sure (the cut) has plenty of time to close up. We’ve got plenty of time to run him later in the year," he added.
