AAEP President McIlwraith Awarded Honorary Doctorate

C. Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, PhD, FRCVS, Dipl. ACVS, Dipl. ECVS, recently was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. McIlwraith is a professor of veterinary surgery and director of the Equine Sciences Teaching and Research Program at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Massey University in New Zealand and his masters and PhD from Purdue. McIlwraith is well known for his contributions to the field of equine orthopedics, and his surgical skills have earned him international acclaim.

"We are honoring individuals who not only have reached unparalleled heights in their professional lives, but have also been enormously generous in their contributions to Purdue," said university president Martin C. Jischke. "It is our privilege to invite these individuals back to campus to recognize their achievements and to inspire today's graduates as they begin their careers." The university awarded 15 honorary doctoral degrees during May commencement ceremonies.

McIlwraith is the current president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and is a member of The Horse's editorial advisory board.
