47th Annual Convention to be Held in November

Equine veterinarians from across the globe will gather in San Diego, Calif., for the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) 47th Annual Convention, Nov.24-28. More than 2,500 practitioners attend the convention each year, making it the largest equine veterinary meeting in the world.

Nearly 100 scientific sessions highlight this year‚s convention. In-depth seminars and expert panels will explore lameness in the western performance horse, the use of frozen semen, current concepts in equine osteoarthritis, pediatrics, and the use of antimicrobials. The popular wet lab sessions, which offer hands-on training, will address dentistry, lameness, neurology, reproduction, and ultrasound. Professional development seminars and interactive small group discussions complete the offerings for convention attendees.

Featured speakers include James N. Moore, DVM, PhD, one of the world’s foremost authorities on equine gastrointestinal disease. Dr. Moore will deliver the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture, “A New Look at Intestinal Displacements and Endotoxemia in Horses.” Keynote speaker Morgan MacArthur, DVM, will open the convention with his talk on managing the professional and personal demands of veterinary practice.

The AAEP strives each year to present the most up-to-date information on the scientific, political, ethical, economic and social issues that affect the practitioner and the horse,‰ said Jerry B. Black, DVM, AAEP president-elect and program chairman of the convention. “Many of the world’s leading equine experts have been selected to speak, and we are excited to build on the excellence of previous conventions.”

Horseman’s Day, the AAEP’s daylong equine health seminar for horse owners, will be held on Sunday, November 25. Six educational sessions will address topics such as trailer loading, equine emergencies, and colic.

Convention attendees will also enjoy a sold-out trade show featuring the newest developments in veterinary medical technology, supplies and services. For more information about the AAEP’s 47th Annual Convention, call 859/233-0147 or visit the AAEP’s web site at http://www.aaep.org.
