Licensing Agreement Claim False

The press release issued Sept. 1 by Select The Best of Carson City, Nev., regarding a licensing agreement with Nutramax Laboratories Inc. concerning a combination chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride product is completely false, according to Nutramax. Select The Best was one of several companies named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Nutramax Laboratories for infringement of its patented formulas for Cosequin and Cosamin.

"Nutramax Laboratories has not licensed any company to market any of its products into any market, and the claims to this effect made in the Select The Best press release are complete falsehoods," Nutramax stated in a press release.

Nutramax Laboratories stated that it manufactures Cosequin according to the same standards used for pharmaceuticals, using the highest grade exclusive trademarked materials in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and does not license any of its products, or access to its specific grade and purity of ingredients, to other companies. Cosequin, containing these specific ingredients, has been researched and has been demonstrated safe and effective.

"Unlike pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and raw materials standards in the nutritional supplement industry are not regulated, therefore we refuse to license because we do not have any confidence in a third party company manufacturing products," stated Nutramax in its release.

"We are extremely proud of the research, the clinical studies, the raw materials, and manufacturing of our products and will not allow any of these elements for which Nutramax Laboratories is well respected be compromised by third party licensing," said Dr. Bob Henderson, President of Nutramax Laboratories.

He added, "In fact, Cosequin is the only veterinary product of its kind to be the subject of third party, controlled, published clinical studies in the U.S., and we are unaware of any studies conducted using Select The Best."

Nutramax Laboratories is a private, science-based research and manufacturing company dedicated to leading-edge technology in the application of clinically proven natural approaches to health care. It recently moved into a new manufacturing/research facility in Edgewood, Md., 20 miles north of Baltimore.
