$5,000 'Quest' For The Best In The New Millenium

The nomination deadline is rapidly approaching for the "$5,000 'Quest' for the Best" at the 3rd annual NAERIC Ranch Horse Classic Competition and Sale Saturday, October 21, 2000. The competition starts at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Auction Sale at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Cow Palace, Olds, Alberta.

Ayerst Veterinary Laboratories is principle sponsor of the 2000 NAERIC Ranch Horse Classic "$5,000 'Quest' for the Best."

The objective of the competition is to identify and reward the well-broke, versatile and athletic all-around ranch horse. The competition consists of ten (10) required pattern elements, and if time has not elapsed, each competitor has an opportunity to show his/her horse to its best advantage. This freestyle segment is not judged, but will allow competitors the opportunity to impress spectators and potential purchasers of the value of the horse, beyond the elements of the competition. The maximum allotted time, including the freestyle demonstration, is eight (8) minutes. Two (2) judges will independently score the horses based on points per element of the competition, athletic ability and desire to work. The AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations dated January 1, 2000 serve as the official guide. All competing horses are then required to sell in the subsequent auction sale.

The "$5,000 'Quest' for the Best" competition offers $5,000 in cash prizes and trophies as follows: 1st place—$2,000; 2nd place—$1,000; 3rd place—$750; 4th place—$500; and 5th place—$250.

Trophy blankets will be awarded to the top three finishers. NAERIC will also double purses earned by horses enrolled in the $1 million NAERIC Incentive Program. This program matches, dollar for dollar, up to $1 million, monies that have been awarded to qualified PMU-bred horses when they compete in events sanctioned by NAERIC.
