The first Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) foal was born on January 17 at the Blackburn Correctional Complex in Lexington, Ky.Logan’s Blush (1987), by Great Prospector, out of Full Blush, foaled a strong, healthy colt by Cappuccio. Logan’s Blush raced until she was 5 and had 10 wins with total earnings of $83,478.

The mare went through the Midlantic December Mixed Sale at Fasig-Tipton (Lexington, Ky.), where she was purchased by John Hettinger under the name of R&R Stables and then donated to the TRF. Mr. Hettinger purchased several mares at this sale because they did not bring prices high enough to outbid the killer buyers. Soon after, Mr. Hettinger was instrumental in ensuring that the upset price at Fasig-Tipton and other Thoroughbred sales was increased to $1,000. The new colt and his mother will stay at Blackburn until an appropriate adoptive home is found.Jeff Oliver, the TRF Blackburn farm manager, noted that this was an excellent and exciting experience for the men who participate in the TRF vocational training program at the Correctional Complex. Under ordinary circumstances the TRF has been home for ex-racer geldings and barren mares.
